Application for Emergency Assistance

The emergency assistance fund is designed to remove barriers quickly for students.  The goal is for students to be fully focused on their studies and continue moving towards successfully completing their goals.  

Emergency funds may assist with:

  • Car Insurance – up to six months
  • Utilities
  • Rental Assistance Car Repairs (no cosmetic repairs)
  • Other – if you have a situation that may prevent you from successfully completing your goals, please complete the application and provide supporting documentation. Every application/situation will be reviewed.

Terms of Grant

  • Funds may cover emergency needs up to $700.
  • Checks will be made payable to the vendor owed, if appropriate. No funds will be paid directly to the student.
  • Students must complete the FAFSA and have the results sent to Muscatine Community College (preferred).

Upon approval of application, grant recipients are requested to write a thank you note to the MCC Foundation about how the grant money helped them to stay in college, and achieve their goals.  Submit to Courtney Cooper at ckcooper@eicc.edu.

Eligibility Criteria            

You must meet all criteria below to qualify:

  • Applicant is a current credit or non-credit student at Muscatine Community College.
  • Applicant is actively seeking a degree/diploma/certificate at Muscatine Community College or regularly attending High School Equivalency or English Language Acquisition Classes; non-credit training students will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on length of the training program.
  • Applicant has completed Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application for the current school year (preferred).
  • Applicant is not on Financial Aid Suspension or Financial Aid ineligible status. If you are currently on suspension or ineligible status, please apply as your situation will be looked at on an individual basis.
  • Applicant is a returning student with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher; a first-time student with no GPA yet; or a non-credit student in good standing.

Instructions

  • Fill out the Application for Emergency Assistance completely.
  • Attach a copy of eviction notice, utility shut off notice, car repair estimates, or other appropriate documentation that pertains to your specific request.
  • Submit this form to Sabrina Shoemaker at sshoemaker@eicc.edu. You will be notified by email (EICC student email account) within 48 hours.
