Urban Chickens

ChickensEastern Iowa Community Colleges’ chicken classes have become a popular attraction recently.

Actually, the classes discuss raising chickens and with several area communities opening up ordinances regarding raising chickens in town, more and more people are coming out for our class.

Due to that popularity we have added another section, July 10 from 6 – 9 p.m. The class will be held at the college’s West Davenport Center, 2950 Fairmount Street.

Students will learn about different breeds, where and how to buy chicks, different types of coops and egg safety. They should wear their garden clothes as they will be handling chicks and mature hens. City ordinances about raising hens will be discussed.

The cost is $24 and the course number is 188811. For more information or to register call the college’s Registration Center at 563-441-4100 or 1-888-336-3907.
