Health careers continue to be a hot field with many employers searching for additional workers.

Scott Community College, one of the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, is hosting a special Health Careers Information session on November 16 to introduce people to the available career options and the educational programs the college has available. The event will be held from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the Allied Health building on the college’s main campus, 500 Belmont Road, Bettendorf.

It will feature all of the college’s health-related programs including:

One purpose of the event is to show the many different job choices there are in health-related fields, all with solid employment opportunities.

Nursing is the field that most often comes to mind when people think of health careers but there are also jobs working in such areas as the x-ray field, dentistry, emergency medical services and in offices assisting in the filing of dental records and insurance claims. Even in nursing there is a wide range of choices from working in an emergency room to the small family physician’s office.

Many national surveys show individuals with training past high school earn far more than those with only a high school education. An Iowa Trends survey reports that, in careers requiring education beyond high school, many health careers are among the top 25 most in demand.

Faculty from each of the different fields will be available to discuss the training and employment opportunities. College representatives will also be available to discuss financial aid, registering for classes and anything else students might have a question regarding.

Eastern Iowa Community Colleges also includes Clinton and Muscatine Community Colleges. Both of those also offer nursing programs.
