Ag instructor and student taking in the fieldThe Midwest was built on agriculture and much of our economy continues to be driven by our crops, livestock and related products. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, 139.6 billion worth of American agricultural products were exported around the world in 2018.

To keep up with this kind of demand, trained professionals are needed in all areas of the industry. Muscatine Community College’s (MCC) Agriculture Program offers the programs and hands-on experience to land a job in this important field.

MCC’s agriculture programs include Agribusiness Equipment TechnicianTurf and Landscape ManagementAgriculture Systems TechnologyPrecision AgribusinessAgribusiness Management, Farm Management and Industrial Hemp Production.

New this year, in partnership with Iowa State University and Iowa Wesleyan University, the college has even added transfer majors in Agriculture BusinessAg EducationAgronomy and Animal Science. These new Transfer Major Associate Degrees lay out the precise course path students complete at MCC before continuing on to the four-year college to which they transfer.

The partner universities have both agreed on these classes, giving the courses their academic seal of approval. This is great news because it’s like being enrolled at the four-year college, but students are able to save money and start their major closer to home. With a specific course map detailing the classes students need to take for their first two years, they can also get started knowing they’ll be ready to transfer seamlessly.

Students enrolled in MCC’s Ag Programs gain valuable hands-on training through paid internship opportunities, with many often earning more than the cost of tuition. Ag specific scholarships, professional development through state and national organizations, travel opportunities, and assistance with career placement also make MCC a top choice.
