New SCC Dean of Instruction named
Dr. Gerald P. Wickham has been named the new Dean of Instruction for Scott Community College. He will begin his duties on July 1, replacing current Dean Janet Coogan who is retiring.
Wickham is currently Assistant Dean for Medical Education & Evaluation at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He also serves as Clinical Assistant Professor, Chair of the Committee on Instruction and Appraisal, and Co-Chair of the Annual Institutional Review of Programs.
“I would like to extend great thanks to the Dean of Instruction search committee for their hard and diligent work in selecting the Dean of Instruction finalists, and I am happy that Gerry will be joining the college,” said SCC President Teresa Paper.
Wickham’s teaching and curricular innovations in interprofessional health science education, professionalism, faculty development and program evaluation have been recognized institutionally and nationally.
Originally from Wexford, Ireland, he has spent the last 18 years living and working in the Midwest, in positions of progressive responsibility at the University of Iowa and the University of Illinois. He has worked as an academic director for TRiO Upward Bound, as director of experiential education with the Pomerantz Career Center at Iowa, as a curriculum and learning communities director at the Carver College of Medicine, and most recently as Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean at the University of Illinois.
Wickham holds degrees from Carlow Institute of Technology in Ireland (A.S. in Applied Physiology), the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland (B.A. Hons), the University of Iowa (M.A.), and his doctorate is in higher education (Ed.D.) from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin.
Wickham is married to Heather Hermann, a Burlington, Iowa native with whom he has two daughters, Cora and Saoirse.
