Medical Assistant Open House Feb. 19
Eastern Iowa Community Colleges’ Medical Assistant program will be entering just its second season next fall and is already a popular one at the college.
Medical Assistant students learn how to provide medical office administrative services and perform clinical duties under the supervision of physicians.
The one-year diploma program is designed for quick entry into the job market. The 10 classes in the program cover such areas as Medical Office Management and Procedures, Medical Terminology, Medical Lab Procedures and Pharmacology. Students will receive hands-on training, including an internship in local physician offices.
Interested students and others are invited to attend a February 19 information session, from 5 – 6 p.m. at the new Scott Community College (SCC) Urban Campus, 101 W. Third Street, in downtown Davenport.
Program faculty will be on hand to answer all questions about the new program.
Medical assistants are responsible for patient intake and care, routine diagnostic procedures and taking patient histories. They can work in ambulatory care settings such as physicians’ offices, clinics and group practices.
The forecast for employment opportunities for medical assistants is one of rapid growth and is expected to grow faster than average for all occupations as the health care industry expands.
Helping to drive this growth is the increasing number of facilities and group practices that need support personnel who can handle both administrative and clinical duties.
The program is housed at SCC’s Urban Campus.
