EICC to offer 16-week Culinary Arts Certificate this spring
10/13/20
Cook up success with Eastern Iowa Community Colleges’ Culinary Arts Certificate. Beginning this spring, students can enroll in the short-term, 16-credit program
designed to provide basic skills and insight into the workings of a professional kitchen.
The certificate can be completed in just one semester and is a great resume builder
for those interested in a career in the food service industry.
“We’ve updated the scheduling so that students only need to come to campus twice a week,” said Diane Stanley, Culinary and Hospitality Program Facilitator. “This makes it easier for students to work earning their certificate around busy work and family schedules.”
Students will receive hands-on training in our state-of-the-art labs under the guidance of our industry-experienced faculty, as well as participate in an internship at a local food establishment.
“It’s a great opportunity for those already working in the field who maybe didn’t have the time to earn their credentials, or those who have an interest in culinary arts and want to explore if this is something they’d like to do,” Stanley said.
Spring classes begin January 19. Class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Scott Community College’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Center, 500 Belmont Rd., Bettendorf. Space is limited. Courses include:
- Basic Food Preparation
- Fundamentals of Baking
- Food Fundamentals
- Sanitation and Safety
- Computer Literacy
- Mathematics for Hospitality
EICC’s Culinary Arts program is one of the college’s largest and most popular. Those who complete the certificate program will be prepared to work as an assistant in the industry, or can continue their education.
