MCC receives $20,000 Monsanto Fund grant for Loper Hall renovation
Monsanto Muscatine awarded Muscatine Community College $20,000
Employees from Monsanto Muscatine recommended Muscatine Community College (MCC) receive a $20,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund’s 2017 site grant initiative. Funds from the grant will be used for the college’s Loper Hall/Student Success Center renovation.
“This is an important contribution for us to continue the momentum on the project,” said MCC President Naomi DeWinter. “The renovation will be a tremendous benefit for our students. We can’t thank Monsanto enough for their support of the college and, most importantly, our students.”
“We are proud to support MCC’s renovation project with the Monsanto Fund grant based on the excellent value they bring to our community,” said Shawn Schrader Plant Manager at Muscatine. “We currently partner with MCC in multiple ways and are looking forward to the completion of their project to continue bringing talented individuals through the College and ultimately into the local workplace.”
This year, the Monsanto Fund awarded more than $1.4 million to nonprofit organizations through its site grant initiative to help address essential needs in rural communities. Nonprofit organizations across the U.S. have received more than $7.5 million through this program over the last five years.
MCC, one of the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, is completing work this fall on a $1.9 million renovation of Loper Hall that houses the college library, student success center, classrooms and faculty offices.
When completed, the building’s lower level will include new student-oriented and flexible learning spaces, collaborative work areas and quiet study rooms. In addition, electrical, technology and other key infrastructure pieces of the building will be updated. The lead gift for this project was received from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust which awarded $750,000 to the college. Other large community contributions were received from HNI Corporation, Kent Corporation, First National Bank, and the Howe Foundation.
