MCC hosts October 26 Manufacturing Open House
With the current high employment rates in the area, jobs are available. But those wanting a better job with better pay need additional training.
Muscatine Community College (MCC), one of the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, works with area manufacturers to provide students the training they need to find employment immediately upon graduation.
The college will be hosting a free Manufacturing Month Open House on October 26 to introduce people to the many different career possibilities they have available to them. Visitors can stop in anytime between 4 – 6 p.m. at MCC’s Muscatine Industrial Technology Center, 152 Colorado Street.
The event is open to everyone including prospective students, parents, current students and their families, and those just curious about what the college is offering. Representatives from HNI, Monsanto and Raymond Corporation will be on hand to discuss careers and the educational training they are searching for in new employees.
The college’s technology center is a more than 8,000-square-foot facility built at a cost of $1.2 million. The impressive structure was designed to offer the latest in state-of-the art training for area students. Its HAAS mills and lathes, and other equipment, are identical to that used in most modern manufacturing facilities.
Those attending will be able to see that equipment in operation. Faculty and others will demonstrate the equipment and discuss careers in such areas as CNC Machining, Electronics, Robotics, Welding, Engineering, Hydraulics, Manufacturing Maintenance and more. College staff will also be available to answer any questions prospective students might have on admission, classes and financial aid.
The programs offer different lengths of study from a two semester Certificate to a full two-year Associate in Applied Science Degree. Students of all ages are enrolled in the classes including those just out of high school to older adults looking for a new career, or interested in advancing with their current employer.
The center is located on the east side of the MCC campus. To get there, take the Colorado Street entrance past the student housing complex, all the way around to the east side of the college. Parking is available.
