CNA helping patientAnyone interested in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) can now take advantage of a unique Eastern Iowa Community Colleges program available in Clinton.

The class is eight weeks long with students meeting face-to-face just one day per week during the first six weeks, with the remainder of the work completed online. The last two weeks are spent in clinical work, where students receive actual hands-on training.

The new program provides students flexibility in being able to fit the class around busy family and work schedules.

CNA is an extremely popular program at the college. It is not uncommon for there to be waiting lists for classes.

The coursework for the upcoming sessions in Clinton is the same as the traditional 75-hour Certified Nurse Aide program. It is the core program for individuals beginning direct patient care and for later advancement to Medication and/or Rehabilitation Aide.

The next session begins May 6 at Clinton Community College, 1000 Lincoln Blvd. The class will be held on consecutive Mondays from 6 – 9 p.m. The exception will be for Memorial Day when that class will be moved to Tuesday.

Clinicals for that session will be held June 11, 13, 18 and 20 from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Eagle Point Health Care Center, 801 28th Ave. N.

Tuition for the class includes the textbook and background check. (The Criminal Background and Abuse Registry checks are mandatory requirements.)
