Learn What One Employer Has to Say

There are countless success stories to be told about our students and their apprenticeship experiences. Greg Scalf with SMS Technical Services in Muscatine provided us with just one example of how well it works:

SMS Technical Services partnered with EICC and the US Dept. of Labor to develop apprenticeship programs in order to find the right employees with the skillset needed to perform our work. The process was simple and effective and the locale and resources at the EICC facilities made access for our employees very convenient.

Soon after SMS group established the Machinist apprenticeship here, Kyle Long, an employee of SMS group enrolled in the program.

We at SMS watched as Kyle’s skillset and capabilities grew as the program progressed. He completed his apprenticeship and earned his Journeyman Machinist status, and by applying his apprenticeship class credits towards the Technical Studies degree program, furthered his education at the college to earn his Associates Degree in a very short amount of time.

In return for his commitment and achievements, Kyle has been identified as a candidate for a management role within SMS group and has a bright future ahead of him.

As a manager and employer in today’s competitive manufacturing environment, one of the largest challenges we face is finding the right employees with the skillset needed to perform our work.

We have educated apprentices that went on to earn full Journeyman status in multiple disciplines that are in high demand. Without this partnership, SMS would continue to struggle finding qualified employees to provide our services.
