Eastern Iowa Community Colleges has partnered with EON Reality, the world leader in virtual and augmented reality training to bring the EON Innovation
Academy to the Quad Cities.
The EON Innovation Academy teaches the skills needed to be successful in creating Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality content and applications for industry and training. These skills also enable students to work in architecture and product visualization, game creation, multimedia design and broadcast media.
The academy is one of only four in the country. Students receive nine months of training, including working directly on a real-life project for one of EON Reality’s customers. Apply for the academy.
Upon completion, students have the option of entering directly into the workforce
or continuing their education toward an Associate in Applied Sciences (AAS) Degree.
EICC has quickly become a leader in Virtual and Augmented Reality training. The college unveiled its new Virtual Reality lab in 2016. The equipment for the lab was funded in part by a $15 million grant awarded to Iowa’s community colleges by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment & Training Administration.
That lab has since been moved to even better facilities in the college's new Scott Community College Urban Campus in downtown Davenport. The new campus was opened in 2018.

Job Outlook for Virtual and Augmented Reality Professionals
Virtual/Augmented Reality is one of the fasting growing sectors in our economy. The technology is spreading far beyond the gaming world to business where companies are using it to train their employees on all sorts of work tasks.
Fast Company magazine quotes futurist Graeme Codrington saying Virtual Reality designers will be the biggest in-demand occupations in the very near future. "In every part of our lives, virtual reality - using much more advanced systems than Oculus Rift or MS HoloLens - will have become everyday by 2025," says Codrington. "We will need VR experience designers in every part of our lives to design and implement virtual reality experiences for us. From training and conference experiences in the workplace, to global tourism and fantasy running trails for our leisure…”
