Muscatine Community College Legends

Jeff ArmstrongMCC invites everyone to its annual Legends dinner, March 31 at Muscatine's Merrill Hotel, 119 W. Mississippi Dr., Muscatine.

The Legends event honors individuals who have been significant supporters of the college, its students, faculty and staff. The 2022 honoree is Dr. Jeff Armstrong.

Over his 33-year career, Jeff Armstrong (April 24, 1955 ~ January 11, 2021) served in many positions at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges. Most recently, as President and Dean of Muscatine Community College, where he worked until 2011. His contributions and dedication to student success were reflected in the many honors he received, including the EICC Chancellor’s Award, the Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished Administrator Award, the Muscatine High School Hall of Honor Award and an honorary doctorate by Ivan-Franko Pedagogical University (Drohobych, Ukraine). Following his career with EICC, Armstrong used his talents to lift up the war-torn people of Afghanistan by helping to build a framework for community colleges under the direction of USAID. He brought the world closer to Muscatine and Muscatine closer to the world.

Funds raised will support our students through the MCC Foundation and MJC/MCC Alumni Association.

The event features a “Grand Salon” with MCC Culinary students working alongside chefs from Muscatine’s finest restaurants, preparing signature dishes.

Musical Entertainment

Muscial entertainment provided by Mike Miller, local musician and performing artist.

He began singing with the Muscatine Children’s Choir and choir at Saint Matthias Church. He proceeded to take vocal & piano lessons all throughout high school & college in addition to participating in vocal ensembles both classical & jazz-focused – including Chamber Singers & Variety Singers at MCC 2005-2006. He began songwriting in High School and in addition to many pop/alternative acoustic style songs, he began choral and piano composition as well, focusing an entire year of college in this concentration.

Upon moving to Minneapolis in 2014, he was a featured vocalist for alternative/electronic project allsofrightened, and eventually teamed up with friend & producer Ryan Bouchie to record an album, “See You Soon”, as Homeboi. After the first track released with allsofrightened, Mike was approached by Jeff Bernet of The Backlit Infinite, a synthwave project based in Minneapolis, and has released several songs and two focused EPs as the featured vocalist & so-songwriter, 2019’s “A Strobe in the Mirror”, and 2021’s “Walkman, Awaken!”.

In 2020, Mike began releasing music under the solo moniker Mikail, and in addition to three singles, he has also released three pop albums, “Red Light”, “ii”, & “asimilasyon”, as well as two Christmas albums – “Chrimstastime” & “Christmastime ii”. All are available on all digital streaming platforms. He moved back to Muscatine to be close to family in 2021 and is currently working in Customer Service at Kent Precision Foods Group. He is now planning to release his first solo physical album release, “MINT” next month, with two more pop EPs scheduled to self-release later this year.
