This is a summary of the requirements for an Associate in Arts (AA) degree with a Social Work concentration for students planning to transfer to Western Illinois University. The AA degree requires completion of both the general education curriculum and electives for a total of 62 semester hours.
 
Students should choose the recommended courses from the EICCD General Education curriculum and complete their AA degree by selecting courses that fulfill requirements for the College of Education. Any remaining electives should be selected from those that have an exact course equivalent at Western Illinois University and are required or recommended for their major.

Admission
WIU-Macomb:  Transfer students may be admitted with 24 semester hours and a 2.0 GPA or with fewer than 24 semester hours as long as students meet the freshmen admission standards, have at least a combined 2.0 GPA for all college work attempted from all institutions attended and are in good standing at the last college attended.

WIU-QC: Transfer students must have earned 60 or more semester hours of college work with at least a combined 2.0 GPA for all hours attempted from all institutions attended and are in good standing at the last college attended.

General Education
Students who have completed an AA or AS degree will have met the WIU general education requirements and have junior standing.  Students who do not complete an AA or AS degree should complete general education courses from WIU's approved list and have a grade of "C" or better in both English composition courses.

Foreign Language
The Social Work major does include at least one semester of foreign language to be completed.

Graduation Requirement
Students must successfully complete the Illinois constitution test if not an Illinois high school graduate and complete 60 semester hours at a four-year institution that includes 40 semester hours of upper division course work and 30 semester hours at Western.

Social Work Program Requirement
Transfer students may enroll in a Pre-Social Work Program.  Enrollment in the Pre-Social Work Program does not guarantee acceptance as a candidate for the Bachelor of Social Work degree.  Among the requirements students must satisfy to earn the degree is achievement of a 2.5 grade point average in major courses prior to enrollment in the required practicum course, maintain a 2.5 grade point average at conclusion of WIU SW 480 and obtain a grade of “C” or better in every graded core SW course.

To be accepted as a major in the Bachelor of Social Work degree program, students must satisfy the following requirements:

1.  Complete WIU SW 100, Introduction to Social Work, with a grade of “C” or better.
2.  Complete a minimum of 30 s.h. of credit toward the degree including WIU Biol 100, Eng 180, Psy 100 and Soc 100.
3.  Have a minimum 2.00 GPA overall.
4.  Provide acceptable documentation of a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer or paid human service experience, such as direct experience with persons using the services provided in medical settings, day care centers, nursing homes, church-related programs or other similar settings. 
5.  Complete the Social Work Program application materials, have a personal interview with a member of the social work faculty, and complete the Social Work Assessment Exam.
6.  Be accepted, on the basis of the application process, by the social work faculty.  If application is denied, the student has the right to appeal to the chairperson.  The department will consider the appeal as a committee of the whole.
