Transfer Guide > Western Illinois University >

This is a summary of the requirements for an Associate in Arts (AA) degree with a Criminal Justice concentration for students planning to transfer to Western Illinois University. The AA degree requires completion of both the general education curriculum and electives for a total of 62 semester hours.

Students should choose the recommended courses from the EICCD General Education curriculum, and complete their AA degree by selecting courses that fulfill requirements for the Law Enforcement and Justice Administration major. Any remaining electives should be selected from those that have an exact course equivalent at Western Illinois University and is required or recommended for graduation.

General Education
Students who have completed an AA or AS degree will have met the WIU general education requirements and have junior standing.  Students who do not complete an AA or AS degree should complete general education courses from WIU's approved list and have a grade of "C" or better in both English composition courses.
Most current articulation information may be found at: http://www.student.services.wiu.edu/admissions/info/transfer/CCHS/artind.asp

Western Illinois University does not require foreign language for graduation.

Graduation Requirement
Students must successfully complete the Illinois constitution test if not an Illinois high school graduate and complete 60 semester hours at a four-year institution that includes 40 semester hours of upper division course work and 30 semester hours at Western.

LEJA Major Requirement
To be a Law Enforcement and Justice Administration major and enroll in upper division LEJA courses at either the Macomb or Quad City campus, students must have completed 60 semester hours to include WIU’s LEJA 101, 201, 212, and 242 with a 2.5 GPA.  All grades on the transfer transcript will count in the calculation of the 2.50 GPA.

Students who do not have these requirements completed will be considered Pre-LEJA majors and will not be allowed to enroll in upper division LEJA course until the requirements have been met while at Western. Students who do not meet the course requirements but have 60 hours and a 2.5 GPA are given a waiver so they may enroll in upper division LEJA courses where the prerequisite has been met.
