   About the SCC TRiO Support Center

Smiling Suz at her desk!The Student Support Services TRiO program is here to help you succeed. You've made a serious commitment to your education, and we're here to see that your time is well spent and that you reach your educational goals.

Students in the program have gone on to increase their grade point average and become active members in clubs and organizations on campus including Phi Theta Kappa Student Government. The TRiO program will help you look forward, with confidence, to your next steps.

If you meet program qualifications, please consider joining. Federal funding enables us to offer this program to those who qualify at NO COST. Stop by our office, located in Room 2200 at Scott Community College (enter exterior door number 3 and walk to the end of the hallway), or call 441-4072; TTY 441-4074.

  What is the TRiO Support Center?   top ^^
        TRiO Support Center at Scott Community College is a federally funded Student Support Services Grant designed to promote academic and personal success for students who qualify. If you qualify, the Center will help you in many ways, primarily with individual tutoring/workshops based on your academic and personal needs and cultural activities that will add to your education and help you grow personally. Our purpose is to help you be successful in school, improve your academic performance and increase your self-confidence. Your graduation and/or transfer is our goal.

  What can TRiO do for me?   top ^^
The TRiO Support Center can help you succeed through:

  Dot image  Intensive academic advising to make sure you get the classes you need
  Dot image  Transfer advice and university tours to make the next step easy
  Dot image  Cultural enrichment activities that are fun and educational
  Dot image  Personal and career development
  Dot image  Assessment, workshops and study groups
  Dot image  Computer assistance and software resources
  Dot image  Disability services

  Who is eligible?   top ^^
You are eligible if you can answer yes to one of the following three statements:
 
  Dot image  Neither of your parents has received a four-year degree.
  Dot image  You are eligible for and receiving financial aid and meet the program's low-income guidelines.
  Dot image  You have a documented physical or learning disability that poses a substantial obstacle to your success.

  What are my obligations to TRiO?   top ^^
If you wish to participate in the TRiO Student Support Services program, you must make a commitment to your success by:
 
  Dot image  Developing your study and academic skills
  Dot image  Keeping all tutoring and staff appointments
  Dot image  Attending workshops and meetings
  Dot image  Maintaining at least a 2.4 (out of four) Grade Point Average, or GPA
  Dot image  Using the program's transfer services to make a smooth transition
  Dot image  Graduating and/or transferring

Activities vary from year to year, but have included the following:

  Dot image  Academic and Personal Self-Help Workshops
  Dot image  Career Exploration
  Dot image  Tutoring
