Students With A Disability

IF YOU ARE A STUDENT WITH A DISABILITY
Here Are Some Steps You Need To Know @ SCC

Student needs to be enrolled before the specialist interacts.

This school does not test for disability. If you think you have a disability but have not been diagnosed, please contact Vera French or a private psychologist. The testing can be expensive but Vera French charges on a sliding scale

Testing must be no less than 3 years old

Use our counseling resources to select the right career choices. This saves a lot of time and money

An entry exam is required. It is untimed and on the computer at the testing center. If you find you need to take courses to brush up your skills in reading and/or math or writing, please take those courses first as recommended by the testing

* WARNING:  Getting scheduled for testing can take time. Start as early as possible because accommodations cannot be given without proof of disability

If You Are In High School And
Will Need Accommodations

Documentation of disability is required. IEP's are not necessarily the right documentation

Documentation needs to include:
Dot image  Statement of type of disability
  Dot image  Severity of disability
Dot image  Include DSMIV number of disability
Dot image  Background/history of disability as school related
Dot image  Accommodations used in school
Dot image  Scores of the testing need to be part of the documentation

If You Are An Older Or Nontraditional Student

(See General Steps)

If you are unsure of being successful because you have had a history of problems in school, a short appointment with the learning specialist may be made before actually signing up.

Most problems are a result of too many hours taken, too many family responsibilities or personal problems interfering with study time.
