What's for dinner?
Mongolian beef, grilled chicken, paella, burgers and spaghetti are all on the menu
of upcoming cooking classes from Eastern Iowa Community Colleges’ Continuing Education
Department. The hands-on classes are held at the college’s West Davenport Center,
2950 N. Fairmount St., from 6 - 9 p.m. and cost $19 each.
Lo Mein & Mongolian Beef is for everyone who enjoys Chinese cooking. Participants should bring containers for leftovers. Class will be held July 7, course number 137704.
Grilled Chicken Breast Dinner shows the easy way to grill marinated chicken breasts, vegetables and dip along with brown rice and steamed broccoli. To top it off, dinner includes a low calorie angel food trifle dessert. Class will be held July 9, course number 138258.
Ole, What’s Paella?will not only be answered by this class but participants will make it as well. Class will be held July 14, course number 138268.
Versions of the Basic Burger breaks out of the rut to create the perfect patty with tons of new ideas including a garden burger with fresh green goddess dressing, a hoisin burger with sriracha mayo, and a homemade version of Texas Roadhouse’s famous fried pickles to top them off. Class will be held July 15, course number 138418.
Summer Spaghetti Dinner includes homemade Italian salad, bruschetta, and summer spaghetti made in, believe it or not, the microwave. Participants will also learn the secrets to a moist and easy iced cake. Class will be held July 16, course number 138261.
And it’s not too late to sign up for the college’s Chicago Ethnic Neighborhoods food trip on July 8. The chartered bus trip includes the French Market, an Italian store, Polish meat market, German pharmacy and a Greek bakery or two. Participants should bring a cell phone and a cooler with ice for taking all of their great purchases home.
The bus departs at 7 a.m. from the Kimberly Center for Alternative Education, 1002 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport, returning at approximately 8:30 p.m. The cost is $79 and the course number is 137955.
