Virtual Reality Information Session
Eastern Iowa Community College’s (EICC) virtual reality program has been in the news a lot lately. Anyone who has seen the stories and wondered about
entering the program can see it for themselves at the upcoming April 29 information
session. It will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. at the college’s Advanced Technology Environmental and Energy Center, 201 N. Harrison St., Davenport.
EICC partnered with EON Reality, one of the world’s largest virtual and augmented reality companies, to bring its Virtual Reality Innovation Academy to the Quad Cities. The academy provides the training students need to grab some of the highest paying and most exciting jobs in this expanding field.
The academy is an intensive 11-month training program. Students receive four months of instruction on the EON computer applications and software, followed by seven months of actual project-based work. During that time, students will be working on real world projects for EON customers, many times including Fortune 500 clients.
EICC’s partnership with EON Reality is only the fourth in the United States with other sites including Dallas, New York City and Toledo. International sites include Manchester, UK; Laval, France; Muscat, Oman; Tshwane, South Africa; Ebene, Mauritius; Abu Dhabi, UAE; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Doha, Quatar; Moscow, Russia; Seoul, Korea.
Those attending the April 29 event have the opportunity to meet with instructors and have their questions answered regarding this new program. All of the training for the program is held at EICC’s new virtual reality lab at ATEEC.
The first class of students began this past January and will complete their work in December. Those attending the upcoming session will have the chance to see and test out for themselves the various pieces of virtual reality equipment available in the lab.
The information session is open to everyone, even those who are just curious about what the virtual reality lab looks like.
Entry level positions for graduates of the academy include 3D Rendering and Composition Artist, Web Programmer, Graphic Designer and more. Anyone who has previous experience or training, or a simply a strong interest, in virtual reality, graphic design, gaming, web design, computer programming, or any of a number of other related areas are well-suited for this training.
