New food in the new year
Food lovers can ring in the new year with cooking classes from Eastern Iowa Community
Colleges’ Continuing Education Department. Classes cost $19 each, are hands-on, and
held from 6 - 9 p.m. at the college’s West Davenport Center, 2950 N. Fairmount St.
Your Japanese Kitchen, Sushi Lovers was so popular when it was originally held a few weeks ago that it is being offered again on January 8. The class is a virtual Japanese Sushi tour including seasoning, Sushi rice, Sushi bowls, and rolls with fish and vegetables. The course number is 136398.
Great Grains explores this essential element in a healthy diet that may help reduce heart disease, ward off diabetes and control cholesterol. Students will experiment with several grains including barley, bulgur, faro, quinoa and wheat berries. Students should bring containers for leftovers. The class will be held January 13, course number 130701.
Sauces and Gravies includes subtle sauces and gravies that add the finishing touch to great dishes. The class will be held January 14, course number 130815.
Puff Pastry features, as the name implies, puff pastries along with phyllo hors d’oeuvres and desserts with Pastry Chef Barb of Short Hills Country Club. The class will be held January 16, course number 130737.
