February cooking classes

Cake PopsSweets for your sweet is the theme for many upcoming cooking classes from Eastern Iowa Community Colleges’ Continuing Education Department. The hands-on classes are held at the college’s West Davenport Center, 2950 N. Fairmount St., from 6 - 9 p.m. and cost $19 each.

Cake Pops are one of the newer trends in baking. This class shows how to make them from scratch with no mixes or fancy molds and includes ideas for packaging and presenting. Participants should bring containers for leftovers. Class will be held February 10, course number 135847.

Chocolate Kiss provides easy steps for three chocolaty deserts. Class will be held February 11, course number 135994.

Valentine Treats  is just in time for Valentine’s Day with both chocolate candy as well as decorated cookies.  Class will be held February 13, course number 135982.

Tarts, Galettes & Crostadas demonstrates the differences between, and how to prepare, these delicious fruit desserts. Participants should bring containers for leftovers. Class will be held February 17, course number 135845.

Jambalaya  is a classic Creole dish combining rice with a variety of other ingredients such as tomatoes, onions, peppers and shellfish or meat (class will use sausage). The class will also make a dessert while the jambalaya is cooking. Participants should bring containers with lids for leftovers. Class will be held February 18, course number 136016.

Eggs-Cellent Egg Dishes of quiche, main dishes and desserts using truly fresh free range farm eggs. Class will be held February 19, course number 135804.

Beef Stew  will chase away the winter chill, made from scratch and full of fresh vegetables. Class will be held February 20, course number 135981.
