Warm up in the kitchen
Eastern Iowa Community Colleges’ Continuing Education Department has a number of upcoming cooking classes that will warm up even the coldest body. Unless otherwise noted, the hands-on classes
are held at the college’s West Davenport Center, 2950 N. Fairmount St., from 6 - 9
p.m. and cost $19 each.
A Mexican Feast includes authentic Mexican flan, delicious salsas, the perfect rice and even a taco or two. Students should bring a container for leftovers. Class will be held February 24, course number 135848.
One Pot Wonders are new and easy ways to make skillet lasagna, veggie curry and a puff pancake for breakfast or dessert. Students should bring containers for leftovers. Class will be held February 25, course number 135827. This class will be held at Pleasant Valley High School, 604 Belmont Road, Bettendorf.
Souper Man comes to the rescue with a Cream of Mushroom soup that is out of this world and the perennial favorite French Onion Soup. Class will be held February 25, course number 135988.
Brioche guides students through the preparation of four different breads from a classic French Brioche recipe. The great tasting dough is easy to make and keeps in the refrigerator for up to a week. Bring an ice-cream size bucket to take the dough home. Class will be held February 26, course number 135753.
Manicotti takes participants through making homemade manicotti dripping with tomato sauce and loaded with cheese. Class will be held February 27, course number 135842.
Roast the Perfect Chicken using Julia Child’s method for roasting chicken and properly displaying it. Side dishes to accompany the chicken will also be presented. Students should bring a container for leftovers. Class will be held March 3, course number 135828.
Gumbo has a rich history and is often called the greatest contribution of Louisiana kitchens. Students will learn to make a perfect roux, a chicken and sausage gumbo and a surprise dessert. Participants are asked to bring containers to take home leftovers. Class will be held March 4, course number 136015.
Give Me Five Minutes a Day and students will be making their own artesian breads. Learn how to make several different baked items from this special dough. Bring an ice-cream size bucket to take the dough home. Class will be held March 5, from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., course number 135751.
Broth-Based Soupswill cover everything from technique to ingredients and flavors. Class will be held March 6, course number 135891.
