2014 B-rrry Scurry Results
With the Polar Vortex threatening subzero temperatures throughout the Clinton region,
temperatures of 26 and light snow were a welcome surprise to the 514 runners and
walkers who enjoyed the 33rd annual Clinton Community College B-rrry Scurry 4-mile
road race on February 1, 2014.
Winner of the female division was Samantha Moller of Silvis, IL in a time of 27.32. Jessica Langford of Rockford, IL holds the women’s record in a time of 23:21. Kevin Diverde of Clinton, IA won the male division winner in a time of 22:36. Bryan Glass of Geneseo holds the record of 20:15.
The B-rrry Scurry continued as “one of the best races in the Midwest” thanks to the commitment of more than 100 volunteers. “Our volunteers came out in force again this year, and we thank them all very much!” raved Race Director Ann Eisenman. She also complimented the Clinton Police and Sherriff’s Reserves for assisting throughout the race route which winds through historic neighborhoods in Clinton. Eisenman noted the early morning hours work of Tom Krogman and the City of Clinton. “Clinton Community College and the City of Clinton puts out the welcome mat each February and many community members volunteer year after year. The efforts of many people make this a great community event.”
The B-rrry Scurry record for coldest temperature was set in 1996, when the mercury dipped to 15 degrees below zero, with wind chill at 55 degrees F below zero.
In addition to the age-group awards, B-rrry Scurry also hosts a B-rrry Challenge to all businesses and organizations. The winners are determined by the number of people the respective organization has entered in the race. For the second year in a row, the winner of the Large Group (over 150 members) award was Swiss Colony. In the Small Group Challenge (less than 150 members), the winner was the Riverfront Running Gang.
Each year the B-rrry Scurry recognizes a sponsor and volunteer who have gone above and beyond. The 2014 Sponsor of the Year has been a race supporter for the last 5 years, hosting the legendary post race party for B-rrry Scurry participants. According to Ann Eisenman, “Legends Sports Bar owner Dave Holmes was willing to take a risk on us his first year of ownership. Our committee asks the participants how to improve the race, and Legends is always open to new ideas. Besides offering frosty cold beverages, he has a quick meal for hungry runners, and has hosted LIVE music to keep the party hopping. We appreciate all of our Sponsors, and congratulations to our 2014 Sponsor of the Year, Legends Sports Bar.”
The 2014 Volunteer of the Year honorees have served happily as a B-rrry Scurry Volunteer family, beginning in 2003. Eisenman commented, “The Burmester Family includes Kennie, Karen, Konnie, and other assorted friends. Their enthusiasm, dedication and willingness to say ‘YES!’ contribute to making the B-rrry Scurry ‘one of the best little races in the Midwest!’ Thanks to all of our B-rrry Scurry volunteers, and especially to our 2014 Volunteers of the Year – the Burmester Family.”
