Dr. Teresa Paper has been named as the new President for Scott Community College (SCC). She was introduced to the media and public this morning by Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) Chancellor Dr. Don Doucette.
Dr. Paper, previously Dean of the College at SCC, has served as the college’s Acting President since July of last year when former President, Dr. Thomas Coley, left to assume the duties of Chancellor of Ivy Technical College’s North Central Region in South Bend, IN.
“Following meetings with faculty and staff at the college it was quite apparent that Teresa has wide support throughout the college community,” Dr. Doucette said. “Not only are we getting an outstanding leader for the college but her appointment provides for an extremely smooth leadership transition.
“I have been very impressed with her work these past few months and I’m looking forward to many great years ahead,” he said.
Scott Community College is one of three colleges comprising Eastern Iowa Community Colleges which also includes Clinton and Muscatine Community Colleges.
Dr. Paper served as SCC Dean of the College beginning in 2005. She came to SCC from Allen Community College in Iola, KS, where she had served as Dean of Instruction from 2000 – 2005.
“I am very excited for this opportunity and I’m grateful for the confidence that both Dr. Doucette and the faculty and staff have placed in me,” Dr. Paper said. “Scott Community College is a wonderful place with many dedicated people working together to provide the best education for our students.”
Dr. Paper said one of her favorite things about being at the college is meeting and spending time with the students. She indicated that one of her immediate goals for the coming year will be student completion, helping each student to get ahead by successfully reaching his or her personal goal.
Dr. Paper earned her Doctorate in Education Administration from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, both from the University of Nebraska – Kearney. She began her higher education career as a mathematics instructor.
Scott Community College offers both college transfer and career technology programs. It had a fall, 2011, enrollment of 5,860 students. In addition to its main campus in Bettendorf, the college also offers classes at its Kahl Educational Center in downtown Davenport. The college will soon be opening its newly-constructed West Davenport Center next to the City of Davenport’s Fairmount Street Library.
