St. Ambrose University, Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) and Black Hawk College, today announced a new Dual Admission Agreement Program (DUAPP) with several benefits, including a new scholarship.
Students enrolled in the DUAPP program will receive an additional $1,000 annual scholarship beyond other SAU academic and institutional scholarships and aid. They also lock in General Education graduation requirements; meet regularly with a St. Ambrose advisor while still in community college; and take advantage of the St. Ambrose Career Development Center, library, athletics facilities, free admission to fine arts events and home games, and co-curricular opportunities within their major.
"The Dual Admission Agreement Program provides significant value for students coming to St. Ambrose from Black Hawk College and Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, as well as any community college," said St. Ambrose President Joan Lescinski, CSJ. "Our goal is to increase both the associate and bachelor’s degree completion rates, and to provide for a seamless transfer to St. Ambrose with maximum support and benefit for our shared students."
In the past 10 years, 2,500 community college students have transferred to St. Ambrose with more than 85 percent of those students coming from Eastern Iowa Community Colleges and Black Hawk College.
“Our partnership with St. Ambrose University is a fine example of how we at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges work to provide opportunities for our students to pursue their dreams beyond their education with us,” said Eastern Iowa Community Colleges Chancellor Dr. Don Doucette. “Many of our students find it difficult to move out of town to continue their education and this partnership is key to their being able to earn their bachelor’s degree while staying close to home.
“We are very happy to work with St. Ambrose on this Dual Enrollment partnership, making it even easier for students to transfer between our institutions,” he said.
EICC has similar agreements in place with other colleges including the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa. The agreements allow students to take advantage of various programs at the college to which they plan to transfer, while still a student at Clinton, Muscatine or Scott Community College.
Approximately two-thirds of EICC’s 9,000 students are enrolled in the college’s Arts & Sciences classes. EICC maintains both joint admissions agreements such as the one with St. Ambrose and joint transfer agreements with many colleges and universities.
These agreements mean that, upon graduation students can take the Arts & Sciences credits they earn here and transfer directly into those colleges and universities. These programs make a college education much more affordable. Tuition at EICC is the lowest in the state of Iowa, hundreds of dollars less than the state universities and thousands less than private colleges.
