Since 1981, the Clinton Community College Alumni Association has been honoring those that have made “outstanding” contributions during the year.  In 2012, we celebrate our 31st year of honoring outstanding contributions to Clinton Community College.

CCC Alumni Association president Kris Hingstrum commented, “It is an honor to present these awards for the 31st  year to such deserving individuals and organizations.  Their contributions to CCC are truly outstanding.”

Outstanding Business Associate is The Erickson Community Center, Clinton Parks & Recreation Department
Clinton Community College and the Erickson Community Center have teamed to put on volleyball camps and basketball instruction to the youth of Clinton and surrounding communities.   The Erickson Community Center has been an outstanding partner.

Director Gregg Obren has been generous with his time to accommodate CCC activities, intramurals and student activities at the Erickson Center.  Gregg has encouraged students to get involved in Clinton Park & Rec activities, and has employed many of our CCC students.

The Clinton Parks & Recreation philosophy fits nicely with the CCC philosophy by providing recreational opportunities to all citizens, promoting diversity and physical and mental wellness.

Outstanding Friend of the College is Trevor Willis
Honored as a member of the Dean’s List, Phi Theta Kappa and the All-Iowa Academic Team, our Friend of the College is truly outstanding.  Trevor Willis is an active friend of the college, serving as  Peer Tutor in the Student Success Center, attending Kid’s Cancer Camp in Des Moines, speaking as an appreciative scholarship recipient for the Paul B. Sharar Foundation Annual Dinner, and proudly wearing the B-rrry Bear costume representing the CCC B-rrry Scurry race.

We will hear from Trevor on graduation day, as he has been selected as a Student Commencement Speaker.  Not only is Trevor committed to CCC, his wife Kimberly and their three  daughters all attended CCC at the same time.

Trevor exemplifies a committed, well-rounded student.  He is kind, caring and goes above and beyond for his fellow student and the college.  He is a walking, talking billboard for CCC!

Outstanding Volunteer is Lisa Wenzel
Dedicated, energetic, enthusiastic and committed are all words to describe Lisa Wenzel.   Although she graduated in Summer 2011, Lisa Wenzel has stayed actively involved at CCC.  She volunteers her time assisting with the annual Cruising with the Cougars Car Show.   She has been instrumental in securing sponsors and prizes for the event, whose proceeds go to sponsor student scholarships.

The 2011 Mud Bog is another event Lisa assisted in.  She set the date, recruited volunteers and organized the entire event.  Funds raised from the Mud Bog also benefit CCC students through scholarships.

Lisa is proud to be a CCC graduate, and is a great promoter of Clinton Community College!

Outstanding Graduate is Angela Cooper
What has our outstanding graduate NOT achieved at Clinton Community College?
Angela Cooper is an accomplished young woman who will graduate May 15 with Associates of Arts AND Associates of Science degrees.  She has been named to the President’s list, the Deans’ list, serves as co-president of Phi Theta Kappa and was recognized as a member of the All-Iowa Academic Team.  She was honored as a Student Leader by the CCC Alumni Association, and is a much-sought-after peer tutor in the Student Success Center.  Angie is also a feature writer for the Gallery student newspaper.

Angie is also active in the community, being a part of the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce LEAD – Leaders Emerging and Developing – program and was selected as a chairperson of the group project.  In her free time, Angie works at Claire’s serving as Acting Assistant Manager which involves training and scheduling.

Angie is an outstanding asset to CCC and to our community!

Outstanding Faculty/Staff Member is Amy Madsen-Smith
Outstanding is just one word used to describe our 2012 faculty/staff honoree. She is also described as committed, prepared, caring, a great volunteer, and willing to work with students to understand the rigors of college.  As a member of the Math Science department for 11 years, Amy Madsen-Smith is committed to quality and student success in all she does.  Though her main assignment is teaching, Amy is committed to student success, both in and out of the classroom.  She serves in other capacities at Clinton Community College such as District committees and assisting with the development of the science addition.

For the last several years Amy has assisted with the Student Orientation process.  She helped to re-design the Orientation so students could gain a better idea of what would be expected of them in a college setting.  Amy has also volunteered her time to be a presenter during the orientations.  Her work with the Student Orientation is another piece of the student success puzzle – it helps students to know what they can do to succeed at CCC.  Her sessions are informative and in depth.  Each student walks away with a better understanding and is prepared to take classes.

Amy Madsen-Smith is truly the definition of Outstanding!

Outstanding Alumni are 40 Years of Clinton Community College Nursing Graduates
Outstanding is the level of care graduates of the Clinton Community College Nursing program offer to patients.  It is also the quality of teaching by CCC instructors preparing students to become nurses.

Since 1972 when the first class of 16 students graduated from our nursing program, 706 people have completed the program and entered the field.  Now forty years later, many of those nurses are still serving in the profession they love.

When asked for memories of the program, nurses often comment on the instructors such as Marilyn Stamp and Patricia Gorman who were thorough in their teaching and committed to the success of the students.  Today Ruth Sueverkruebbe, Amy Kramer, Bill Clausen and Amy Madsen-Smith provide that outstanding teaching which is the cornerstone of an outstanding program.

We honor all of our Outstanding CCC Nursing graduates through the years!
