CCC GED Graduation
The Clinton Community College Adult Basic Education department celebrated the 2012 GED Graduation on Tuesday, May 29 in the Clinton Community College Auditorium, 1000 Lincoln Boulevard, Clinton.
Twenty-two students participated in the ceremony. Graduate addresses were given by Dawn Knapper and Yolanda Washington. Also participating in the ceremony were Eastern Iowa Community College Chancellor Don Doucette, Vice-Chancellor for Continuing Education & Workforce Development Nancy Kothenbeutel, Dean of the Career Assistance Center & GED Chief Examiner Peg Garrison, Clinton Community College President Karen Vickers and members of the EICC Board of Directors, Mary Lou Engler and Brian Angwin. Since 2003 the Paul B. Sharar Foundation and the Eastern Iowa Community College Board of Directors have partnered to offer each graduate of the EICC GED program a three credit hour scholarship or the equivalent cost of a program that would lead to immediate employment.
The GED program provides individuals who did not graduate from high school an opportunity to earn their diplomas. To do so, the graduates are required to successfully pass five different state approved tests in Language Arts Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts Reading, and Math. Minimum scores are required for each test area as well as an overall minimum average score. Completing the tests requires weeks, sometimes months of dedicated study. Ninety-three students successfully completed their GED in the 2011-12 fiscal year.
