When I came to America I spoke not a word of English. I knew that
I would need to learn English to get back in to the medical field, so
I went online and learned about the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Scott Community College.
"I enrolled with the help of Scott Swanson, ESL Program and
Foreign Languages Manager; he was very patient and willing to help. I was able to learn to speak English in about a year and a half. I am now enrolled at Scott Community College full-time in the Radiology Technology program with plans to attend the University
of Iowa to study nuclear medicine and anesthesiology."
Mario is an outstanding student who has also become active in the community and for these efforts he was awarded the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship this Spring semester to help with his tuition needs.
