SCC Foundation thanks Pete Pohlmann and Lujack Schierbrock Chevrolet Co.
The Scott Community College Foundation received new parts and accessories for the Auto Technologies Department valued at more than $140,000 from Lujack Schierbrock Chevrolet Co. New auto parts and accessories were received for GM, Mazda, Subaru, Nissan, KIA, Hiline, and Honda vehicles, including sheet metal, complete engines and mechanical parts.
“In our Foundation’s history, this is our largest in-kind donation of automotive parts," said Lysa Hegland, Scott Community College Foundation Director. "We were very excited to receive Pete Pohlmann’s call with his generous offer. This donation will help us serve our automotive students better today for their future role in our community,”
“This in-kind donation will allow our students to work first-hand on several different models of new engines and transmissions," said Darrell Hanan, Department Coordinator for Transportation Technologies. "With the cost of an engine being about $4,000, we would not have had the funding to acquire the variety of engine models or the large number of engines on our own.
"We also received several automotive parts that we will use as class models to allow students to see first hand what the parts look like verses just a simple picture in a text book. This donation will make the learning experience for our students more meaningful,” .
As Scott Community College strives to remain valuable to the higher education needs of our community, the demands to make sure students are given the best education possible with real life teaching tools is growing and so is the need for donations and support to acquire such items.
The college's in-kind donation needs are plenty with faculty looking for various skeleton models, laboratory equipment, computers, dental equipment, nursing equipment, audio visual equipment, automobiles and even props and costumes for the theatre department. Anyone with an item they would like to inquire about donating, please call the Scott Community College Foundation at 563-441-4063.
