Culinary Arts Instructor receives “Excellence in Food Service Education” Award
Scott Community College Culinary Arts Instructor Brad Scott was recently selected by the Center for the Advancement of Food Service Education Commission (CAFE) as their first place selection in the National Leadership Initiative Award for Excellence in Food Service Education.
The award is sponsored by the Idaho Potato Commission and was based on the following criteria:
* Successful methods of instructional delivery
* Exceptional Community Outreach
* Student Competitions
Scott has been instrumental in building relationships with the area high schools through the development of the Culinary Youth Apprenticeship. In addition, he and his students are in the community doing many Grand Salons for non-profit groups in the Quad Cities area.
The students of Scott Community College have participated in many pork, beef and seafood competitions as well as Scott Community College’s United Way CHILI Challenge. This year the students placed second and third at the pork competition and best overall in the beef competition.
"I must say that I am very flattered to receive this award since they informed me that 13 other programs from across the United States were submitted including Kendall College in Chicago and University of Tennessee, who placed second and third", said Chef Brad Scott.
To accept his award, Scott will be attending the Summer Café Leadership Conference in Downtown Chicago on June 27th. As part of his award he is receiving complementary registration for this conference and a $1,000 award for his Culinary Arts program at Scott Community College.
