Design to Manufacturing: An Engineering Workshop
High school students who have ever dreamed of designing, fabricating and rolling their own rocket car out of assembly can now do so in a free workshop sponsored by Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Community Colleges.
to use 3D modeling software to design a seven-inch rocket car, evaluate its aerodynamics and stress points and print a model in a Rapid Prototype Machine. Best of all, they will manufacture a usable version in a computer numeric control (CNC) machine and actually
race their cars against each other. Prizes will be awarded for the best design and fastest car.
The workshop will be held April 4, 5, 18, 19 and May 2, 3, 16 and 17 at the Blong Technology Center, 8500 Hillandale Road, Davenport. The Friday sessions meet from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. and the Saturday sessions from 8 a.m. - noon.
The workshop is limited to 30 students and open to high school and Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Community College students. for more information or to register, contact Robert Border, 563-441-4370.
This workshop is sponsored by a grant from the National Science Foundation and donations from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
