Kids, college and commerce come together to keep Muscatine Green

Protect your identity, shred your documents.
Protect planet earth, recycle all that you can.
Go green Muscatine, plant something.

Operation Green Muscatine, a community-wide event to be held May 2 on the Muscatine Community College campus, will promote community improvement through a focus on litter prevention, waste reduction and beautification.

Muscatine Community College joins with community for Operation Green Muscatine Earth Day activitiesFollowing closely behind Earth Day on April 22nd and falling in line with the Great American Clean UP, Operation Green Muscatine is sponsored by the Members Community Credit Union and is presented by the Beta Zeta Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa along with two other student groups at MCC, All Kinds of People and the Horticulture Club.

A Full Day of Activities
Operation Green Muscatine kicks off with a tree planting ceremony at 10:30am on the MCC campus and continues with activities until 2:00pm.  Children from the Learning Tree Preschool and from Colorado School are expected to participate in planting and recycling activities.

Information about recycling of all types and renewable energy sources like solar power and bio-fuels will be on display. Plus, Muscatine residents are encouraged to drop off recyclables such as ink and toner cartridges, old cell phones, old textbooks, and documents in need of shredding.

Members Community Credit Union has arranged for a giant Shred Truck to be on site from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. for anyone to bring old documents like bank statements, credit card offers, and invoices for shredding.

“With the ease of identity theft, it is important to shred any documents that list personal information,” said Brooke Mehaffey, marketing director for Members Community Credit Union.

The shred truck, recycle bins and activities tents will be located at the north end of the MCC Campus which borders Colorado Street.
