MCC introduces public to Community Television Theater
The newly renovated Muscatine Community College (MCC) Community Television Theater was officially opened to the public in January. An open house was held in the studio at MCC and community members and MCC staff toured the facilities to learn how they could benefit from the new renovation.
The studio has been upgraded and expanded to feature many new amenities including:
-
Professional Overhead Grid Lighting
Chad Yocom and Chad Bishop during
a LIVE taping of an Access Channel
Nine TV Production of “Musca-T-Time” - New Sound Recording capabilities
- 16' x 12' Stage Platform
- Studio Backdrops
- Double the Studio Square Footage
- Room for a Small Studio Audience
- New Edit Suite Area
The new studio, made possible by a grant of $22,816.00 from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, $500 from the Eastern Iowa Community College District Special Projects committee, plus funding from the college budget, will give the public a more professional television production facility. Television programs produced at the MCC Video Department will now be broadcast quality and will no longer be limited by the former space confinements.
During the Open House, many MCC Staff members came up with some interesting ideas for projects. For example, Business Department Instructor, Jim Elias, plans to work with the department to produce an MCC version of the popular television show "The Apprentice". It was also proposed that the department produce a campuswide Quiz Show Tournament in which various college groups and departments compete against each other weekly on LIVE television.
The students in this year's Video Production class will be the first to enjoy the new educational opportunities of the studio. They are planning to produce a program called the "MCC Calumet Connection". The production will be a bi-weekly news magazine focusing on informing the public about campus news, current events and departmental information.
