Muscatine Community College Foundation announces scholarship awards for 2008-09

Application Deadline is  April 1

Billie DeKeyrel, MCC Assistant to the President and MCC Foundation Scholarship Coordinator, has recently received the allocation figures for the 2008-09 academic year at Muscatine Community College. The Foundation Scholarship Awards will total $258,732.  Listed below are the scholarship awards available, including criteria for each:

Bernice Bowsman Scholarship
No restrictions as to program of study

Bauer Family Memorial Scholarship
Journalism majors.

Bloom Scholarship
Residents of  Muscatine County studying in a health-related field.

Edward S. Burns Family Scholarship (in Memory of Bradford Burns)
Muscatine County Residents- demonstrated academic commitment to academic excellence

C Scholarship
No restrictions as to program of study – Financial need considered

Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust Scholarship
Must have completed six or more hours, preference to nontraditional, education and nursing majors – financial need emphasized

Roy J. Carver Memorial Scholarship
Preference given to business majors

EICCD Chancellor’s Challenge Award
Academically challenged but committed to achieving certificate or associates degree

Herman Cohn Scholarship
Sophomore business major, minimum GPA of 3.0, leadership qualities and financial need

Jerome W Conway Scholarship
Sophomore with demonstrated leadership qualities, financial need, minimum GPA  of 3.0

Feed & Fertilizer Marketing Scholarship
First year student entering feed and fertilizer program

Gaekle Scholarship
Math major

Gould Scholarship
Sophomore with financial need

Harry J And Nellie B Griffith Memorial Scholarship
Students from Wilton, West Liberty, Tipton, Muscatine Durant and Davenport West High schools

Ronald Hansen Scholarship
Economics or Business major

Ruth Hazlett Scholarship
Sophomores entering careers in religious ministry, counseling or health-related professions
 
Healey Scholarship
Freshman, preference to student with interest in foreign language, GPA of 3.0, strong study habits

Huff Family Scholarship
Financial need

Julia Elizabeth Scholarship
Residents of Muscatine County

Kevin Hildebrandt Memorial Scholarship
Returning journalism student with a 3.5 to 3.5 GPA

Keith Larson Memorial Scholarship
Sophomore student, must display excellent writing skills

J. Robert Lewis Scholarship
Preference to pre-law students, demonstrated academic ability and financial need
Award  for graduating student also.

Jack Lockridge Memorial Scholarship
History or Government major

James F. Loper Scholarship
Local area student, high level of achievement in academics and leadership skills

M Scholarship
No restrictions as to program of study, financial need considered

Math-Science Scholarship
Freshman entering a math or science related college major

Marta Scholarship
Student entering a career in education

Paul & Imogene McCabe Scholarship
No restrictions as to program of study, financial need considered

Betty McCullough Scholarship
No restrictions as to program of study, financial need considered

Mary McGovern Scholarship
Elementary education major

MJC/MCC Alumni Association Scholarship
Awarded to son, daughter, husband, wife or grandchild of MJC/MCC alumni

Messenger Scholarship
Muscatine High School Award-MHS makes award

Wallace & Ida Mae Nyweide Scholarship
Preference to Education majors, financial need

Harold Ogilvie Scholarship
Sophomore with no restrictions of study

Owen L. & Helen R. Olson Scholarship
Student from MCC area who show financial need and potential for success

Potter Scholarship
Emphasis on financial need

Rauch Scholarship
Intention of student to enter career working with long-term handicapped individuals

Robert Roach Scholarship
Sophomore with demonstrated high level of academic achievement, involvements in school & community activities

William Roach Scholarship
No restrictions to program of study

Paul C. Sandy Scholarship
Freshman engineer majors from Muscatine, Louisa County or Durant High Schools

Pacia Sauer Memorial Scholarship
Must have earned 24 hours with 3.0 GPA or better, financial need considered

Margaret Sinnett Scholarship
Sophomore majoring in social science or business

Ann C. Sissel Scholarship
Appreciation of literature, must be of good moral character

Stamler Scholarship
Muscatine High School Award-MHS makes award

Sally Stiles Scholarship
Re-entry female, either single mother or woman over 50

Mary Underdahl Memorial Scholarship
Non-traditional student, preference to GED graduate

Volger-Romig Scholarship
Electronic communications or broadcasting major, work commitment

Albert & Lydia Weeks Scholarship
Music major with financial need

Howard And Charlotte Worst Scholarship
No restrictions as to program of study

Maurice And Mary Young Scholarship
Two awards for majors in business and economics, two awards with no restrictions

These scholarships have a wide range of criteria, established by the donor, and awards are made on that basis.  Applications for the 2008-09 academic year are due in the scholarship office by April 1, 2008.  Awards are made and announced in May.  For more information or to request a scholarship brochure/application, contact  Billie DeKeyrel, 288-6003.
