MCC partners with ‘Friends of the Mill” to produce educational DVD
The Muscatine Community College Video Department has recently completed production of a DVD that showcases the Pine Creek Grist Mill, located at Wild Cat Den State Park.
The “Friends of the Mill”, contacted MCC Video Department’s video specialist, Chad Bishop, last winter regarding their desire to produce a promotional video for the Mill. The mission of the Friends is to restore, operate and maintain the mill, and to share the historical significance of the site through educational programs, public tours and events.
The DVD features a look at the history of the mill and the renovation process. Viewers will also learn about educational and visitor opportunities.
The Pine Creek Grist Mill is the area’s most visited tourist attraction and this DVD will be available at the Muscatine Chamber of Commerce to encourage even greater attendance. Operating and maintaining the mill is an expensive undertaking The Friends group is also hoping to be able to use this DVD to generate additional funding sources through grant applications.
Funding for the video production was provided by the HNI Corp., the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine, as well as by an anonymous donor. Costs that weren’t covered by the donor support were donated as ‘in-kind’ services by the Eastern Iowa Community College District.
