BPA members capture awards at State Leadership Conference
Six members of the Muscatine Community College chapter of Business Professionals of America attended the State Leadership Conference in Des Moines, February 27-29.

Ana Castaneda placed first in Integrated Office Applications,
second in Desktop Publishing, and received an honorable mention in Parliamentary Procedure Concepts. Veronica Martinez placed
first in Desktop Publishing and fifth in Parliamentary Procedure Concepts. Andrea Orr placed second in Human Resource Management and earned an honorable mention in Basic Office Systems and Procedures. Olivia Stutzman placed third in Interview Skills and received an honorable mention in Advanced Word Processing Skills.
The Administrative Support Team of Veronica Martinez, Ana Castaneda, Andrea Orr, and Heather Gorsuch received second place. In addition, Heather Gorsuch and Erika Rhodes received honorable mentions in Basic Office Systems and Procedures.
Co-advisors for the MCC chapter, Carol Cunningham and Jeremy Pickard, said they were very proud of the effort the students put into preparing for the contests and the award they received.
For the second consecutive year, the MCC chapter received the Cents Count traveling trophy for raising the most money for Special Olympics. Through this program BPA chapters throughout the state conduct fundraising projects for Special Olympics, and the chapter raising the most money takes home the traveling trophy to display until next year’s conference. The MCC chapter raised $493, which will be donated to the Muscatine Special Olympics.
For the third consecutive year, the MCC chapter received a certificate of merit for participation in the Quality Chapter Distinction Award. Recognition is given to those chapters that meet the seven criteria for the award.
Business Professionals of America is a national organization for students preparing for careers in business. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students opportunities to apply the skills learned in school. Business Professionals of America contributes to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, and academic and technological skills.
