Iowa Paramedic Specialist Course

IOWA EMT-PARAMEDIC SPECIALIST (NREMT-P)  600 clock hours

Course Description:
This is a 50-week program that includes theory, practical lab, clinical and field internship. It consists of 9 modules of instruction:  preparatory, airway, patient assessment, medical, trauma, OB/Pediatrics, community, cardiac and pharmacology. The student will also complete a competency based clinical rotation through nine clinical sites and a field internship. 

This course is based on the United States Department of Transportation Guidelines and the National Standard Curriculum for EMS Education which is the foundation of knowledge and skills of the EMT-Paramedic.  Upon successful completion of the program, the student is eligible for the National Registry of Emergency Medical technicians, EMT-Paramedic practical and written examinations.  The Paramedic Specialist is the highest trained pre-hospital care provider in the State of Iowa. The fees are subject to change.

Pre-requisites:

  1. Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  2. Must be physically able to perform the skills required of EMS personnel.
  3. Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  4. Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of enrollment.
  5. Must possess a current State of Iowa EMT-Basic, Iowa EMT-Intermediate/85, or Iowa EMT-Paramedic certification (I/99).  If you do not have an Iowa certification, please call:  563-336-3444 for assistance.
  6. Must possess a current American Heart Association, Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer CPR card which validates training in obstructed airway, AED and CPR for adults, children, and infants.

Refunds and substitutionsIf your plans change, you may cancel your registration up to seven calendar days prior to the start of the program.  After that, no refunds will be issued.  You may however, apply the tuition towards another class that meets your scheduling requirements or you may choose a gift certificate in the amount of your class to use within one year of the date issued.   Please note that if you don’t cancel and don’t attend, you are still responsible for payment.
