2008 CPR Saturday features session for young people
This year's CPR Saturday is featuring a special session for young people. Coordinated by Eastern Iowa Community College District (EICCD), the event will be held February 16 at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds Keppy Hall.
Organizers have set aside the 11 a.m. session specifically for young people, beginning at age 10 and older. The session will feature infant CPR and is a great way to introduce young people into this life saving technique.
"We felt it we needed to begin delivering the message of how important CPR training is to a younger audience," said EICCD Health Coordinator Dawn Hamilton. "By working with young people we will be able to extend our work to a broader audience and, in turn, save more lives."
Hamilton said that parents are encouraged to accompany their children and also participate in the 11 a.m. session.
In addition to that session, adult CPR sessions will be held at 8 and 10 a.m., and a second infant session will be held at 9 a.m.
As with last year, participants will not only learn how to save a life, they will take a gift home as well. Each participant, one per family, will be given a take-home CPR kit.
“The kit fits in a box that is just slightly bigger than a telephone book in size,” Hamilton said. "People can use the kits to train other family members, babysitters or anyone else who would like to learn CPR. Out hope is that the work we do on CPR Saturday is multiplied several times as people use these kits in their homes.”
Admission for the event is just $5. Participants can register by calling Eastern Iowa Community College, 563-441-4100 or toll free1-888-336-3907.
This is the 12th year for CPR Saturday which has trained hundreds of people in proper CPR techniques through the years.
The event is sponsored by Eastern Iowa Community College District and many area health-related providers and other businesses including: Genesis, Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, American Red Cross, Palmer College of Chiropractic, Cardiovascular Medicine PC, HyVee, Swiss Vally Farms and Pratt Audio-Visual.
