KnowHow2Go shows path to education
KnowHow2Go is a national multimedia public service campaign
designed to help middle school and high school students achieve
their dreams of going to college. Locally, Clinton Community
College (CCC) led the way in joining onto the campaign and has
since been joined by both Muscatine and Scott Community
Colleges.
Partnering with
CCC in the initial kick off of the program were Clinton area school
districts, Ashford University, the Clinton YM and YWCAs, Junior
Achievement and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
“KnowHow2Go provides information for all students
interested in furthering their education,” Clinton Community
College President Karen Vickers said. “It’s especially
intended, however, for those who are underserved or are the first
in their family to pursue a secondary education and are unaware of
the steps they must take.
“Because those students so often don’t know or
understand those steps, they are vastly underrepresented at most
colleges,” she said. “One of the many unique things
about community colleges is that we can be that starting point for
students.”
The community college’s low tuition and financial aid
opportunities make a college or technical education affordable for
everyone. In addition, the colleges offer a variety of academic
support options, free of charge, that provide students the help
they need to succeed in all of their classwork.
Clinton Community College Admissions Officer Cheryl Tack said that the most important thing for
people to know is that help is available.
“They shouldn’t feel like they’re all alone or
like they’re the only ones who are confused,” Tack
said. “This is what we do every day. We’re here to help
people understand the process and, best of all, to help them see
what’s possible. They just need to give us a call.”
CCC worked with Ashford University to kick off the KnowHow2Go
campaign this past fall with a Back to College night at a Clinton
LumberKings game.
