Checklist For Admission
Academic Advising: For new students, an advisor from Student Services can recommend courses for the first semester. Thereafter, it is recommended students have a nursing advisor to assist in a plan of study.
As a requirement of the Biology Department, students must have completed one year of high school biology and chemistry or one semester of college biology and chemistry within the last 5 years, before they can enroll in BI:181.
Priority admission into the Nursing Program may be given to students who have completed the general elective requirements in the first two semesters of the program (PY:105, BI:181, BI:182, BI:146, PY:115, EN:105).
Pre-Nursing Advising
| Student Name ____________________ | Assessment Testing Scores |
| SS# ____________________________ | Math ______ Reading ______ |

Assessment Testing: Students must test above the college reading level and basic math level. If not, some form of remediation must be done.
Has this student taken 1 year of High School Chemistry or Basic Chemistry at the college level within the last 5 years?
Has this student taken 1 year of High School Biology or General Biology at the college level within the last 5 years?
Chemistry and Biology are pre-requisites for BI 181.
(If a "C" or better is not achieved in these courses, students should be aware that they may have difficulty with BI:181 and all nursing courses.)
CO-REQUISITE COURSES FOR THE NURSING PROGRAM
Although the EICCD Nursing Program is a two-year program, many students prefer to follow a three-year plan. The following courses must be taken with Nursing (NU) courses or prior to entering the Nursing Program. These courses must be completed in sequence in order to progress through the nursing program most efficiently. A suggested course load is as follows:
| First Semester | Second Semester | Third Semester |
| BI:181 | BI:182 | SO:100 |
| EN:105 | PY:115 | |
| PY:105 | BI:146 |
This is only a recommendation for coursework that may (but does not have to) be completed before the student enters Nursing Fundamentals. It should be noted that it is NOT recommended that NU:118 & 119 (Pharmacology) be taken before NU:121 & 122 (Nursing Fundamentals). Students who take NU:118 & 119 prior to Nursing Fundamentals must be able to perform all tasks and skills learned during these courses at the same level of functioning as all other students when they are enrolled in the Nursing Fundamentals course.
