Cancer Information Management

Scott Community College

If you're interested in a health-related career, but have decided that being a doctor or nurse isn't for you, then Cancer Information Management (CIM) may be just the ticket.

CIM began in the fall of 2005 at Scott Community College as an offshoot of the college's popular Health Information Technology program. It's great for individuals who are detail oriented and are interested in the health field.

Cancer registrars work in hospitals, government agencies and pharmaceutical companies. They manage, analyze and maintain clinical cancer information databases that are used in research, quality management, facility planning, program development and compliance.

Designed to meet the National Cancer Registrar's Association's (NCRA) formal requirements for students interested in entering the cancer registry profession, Scott's program is one of only a dozen such programs offered throughout the United States.

The CIM classes are offered online, via the internet, making it convenient for individuals who have already completed an HIT program and are presently working in the field.

Scott has been officially awarded Provisional Accreditation from the National Cancer Registrars Association and students who complete our program are eligible to sit for the CTR exam under eligibility Route 2.
