Eastern Iowa Community College is nationally-recognized as a
leader in environmentally-related issues.
The college's Health, Safety and Environmental
Technology program was created more than 20 years ago with
funding from the Environmental Protection Agency. The program is
entirely online and includes students from across the country and
even the world.
In the Fall of 2009 the college unveiled a new Renewable
Energy Systems Specialist program. Response to the program
has been overwhelming. A line of interested students wound through
the hallways during our initial open house. The program trains
technicians to work in such areas as wind, solar and biofuel
energy.
Our most recent addition to this area is a cooperative program
with Western Illinois University. The Natural Resources
Management Track is especially exciting not only because
it can lead to a four-year Bachelor’s Degree but also because
students receive hands-on training at the nearby Nahant Marsh
Education Center.
