Job Outlook
The graduate of the Sign Language program will most likely be
entrepreneurial in job seeking since there are many organizations
that need interpreters for occasional events, meetings or speeches,
but not often for a fulltime position. However, this can be a
benefit, since this allows the interpreter to set his or her own
hours and control the number and type of clients. Some will become
regular clients.
Jobs are also available in the educational setting, typically
during the school year. Human services and education can sometimes
provide fulltime jobs in this area, depending on the agency or
school district.
Earnings
Entry-level salaries for graduates of this program will vary
depending on the employment situations and the individual
graduate’s background. According to labor market statistics,
the median hourly earnings are between $12 to $14 an hour. Benefits
maybe part of a package provided by some of the employers as
well.
