Description
The field of Interior Design is a profession with parameters
defined by such organizations as ASID, AIA, and IIDA. The Scott
Community College Interior Design Program seeks to educate
individuals to become professionals both in skills and in
attitude.
Interior Designers plan, design, and furnish interiors of
residential, commercial, or industrial buildings. They formulate
design that is practical, aesthetic and conducive to intended
purposes, such as raising productivity, selling merchandise or
improving life style. The program combines theory with hands-on
experience that replicates the practices of professionals in the
field.

National trends indicate that the average annual job openings for
Interior Design are expected to be 1,888, in the years 2006 to
2016, which is a 19 percent growth rate. Consumers continue to
become more aware of the importance of the Interior Design
Specialist.

Interior Design Specialists with an Associate in Applied Science
degree may earn an average salary of $27,880 to $34,510. Hourly
wages in Iowa average $16.40 and $22.11 in Illinois. The amount of
money a graduate can expect to earn will also depend on his or her
past work experience. Earning potential is greatly influenced by
commissions on sales and production.
