Scott Community College is excited to introduce a new program in Apparel
Merchandising. This short-term, fast-track program includes both Certificate and
Diploma options.
The Certificate option is just two semesters in length
with three classes each semester. The Diploma option includes 10 classes over
two semesters and a summer co-op work experience.
The Apparel Merchandising program is in the same department as the college’s
long standing and popular Interior Design program.
Apparel Merchandising
Certificate
The first semester in the certificate option
includes Materials I, where students learn about different fabrics and fibers,
Design Fundamentals and Color Theory.
The second semester includes a class in Fashion Trends & Consumer
Analysis, and then allows the student to choose between different class options,
depending on their personal career goals. Those classes include Introduction to
Business, Marketing, Selling and Retailing.
Apparel Merchandising
Diploma
The diploma option includes the classes at the certificate level with
additional first semester classes in communications, business and/or marketing.
In the second semester students take additional classes in Apparel Visual
Merchandising and Fashion History.
The summer co-op experiences is a key part of the diploma option, allowing
students to put their classroom skills to use in a real world environment and
creating experience that will help them build their resume.
