According to the American Design Drafting Association there are currently more than 500,000 highly skilled designers and drafters employed nationwide, and this number should continue to grow. 

From an employer survey compiled by The Journal magazine, the outlook for design drafting technicians is good both at a national and regional level.  The trend in the drafting field is leaning toward advanced automation of most of the design drafting tasks. 

Students who are trained in the areas of CAD and advanced design principles are in demand now and will be in demand for years to come. 

Entry level drafting technicians can expect to earn between $20,000 to $30,000 annually.  Experienced technicians earn considerably more.
