Message from the MCC President, Dr. Jeff Armstrong:
Muscatine Community College had its humble beginnings in 1929 when our
founders opened the doors to Muscatine Junior College for its first
class of 49 graduates. For the next 34 years, the college continued to
serve the community in six temporary locations. In the fall of 1963, a
permanent facility was dedicated. MJC/MCC broke new ground in higher
education and laid the foundation upon which the community college
movement has been built. We began with the premise that all students
deserve an opportunity for post high school education. That simple
concept has expanded as the needs of the community have grown. As the
years have passed, we have added to the arts and sciences transfer
curriculum specific vocational offerings, adult basic education,
community education programs, and, most recently, customized training in
workforce skills to support our business community.
Academic excellence has always been a hallmark of MCC. At the core of
the "MCC Experience" are relevant programs, dedicated faculty and staff,
and an atmosphere of caring that brings out the best in those we serve.
Our student activities program adds to that experience by providing
opportunities for every student to participate outside the classroom.
Over the years, MCC has been blessed by both alumni and commmunity
friends who have built and supported our MCC Foundation. Hundreds of
students have benefitted from this support through Foundation
scholarships and the difference made in their lives is enormous. A
familiar story is told again and again by our students…"if it hadn't
been for my scholarship, I never would have been able to go to
school…".
We are poised for a new era of growth and service to the community which
has so generously and enthusiastically supported us since 1929.
