CLINTON, Iowa — Clinton area schools and youth groups will use a night at the ballpark to kick off an educational campaign aimed at students and parents seeking information about how to apply for and fund a college education.
The KnowHow2Go campaign is a national effort that offers information about planning for a college education, said Jane McAuliffe, president of Ashford University, one of the sponsors of the local effort. Information about the campaign will be available during Back to College Night at the Clinton LumberKings game Aug. 30 at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton. Free tickets to the game are available at Ashford University and Clinton Community College.
Ashford and CCC have partnered with local school districts and other organizations such as the YMCA, YWCA, Junior Achievement and Big Brothers Big Sisters in promoting the program.
McAuliffe said she was excited to learn about the program because, as a former middle school teacher, she had known many students who thought a college education was unattainable.
CCC President Karen Vickers said employers are expecting workers to be more highly trained and educated.
“There will be rich opportunities for our future workers, if they’re prepared,” Vickers said.
The KnowHow2Go program is aimed at parents as well students who want to know how to apply for college, pay for it and graduate on time, said Juan Garcia of the Iowa College Access Network, which is promoting the campaign on a state level.
“We want to make sure all students know college is possible,” Garcia said.
