Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Community Colleges can put you on the fast track to a new career with a number of short-term career programs such as:
Truck Driving - Our ten-week truck driving program provides a minimum of 32 hours per week behind the wheel in city and highway driving and 64 hours of classroom instruction. Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations are thoroughly covered. Students are prepared to take and pass the Commercial Driver's License exam, a necessity for all commercial drivers in the United States.
Logistics - Logistics is the link between manufacturers and customers, moving goods along the road from maker to buyer. Logistics technicians are experts in inventory control, warehousing, traffic management, location analysis, packaging, materials handling and customer service. The program is offered in four, 10-week tracks. You can take them all or the one that best suits your needs.
Production Welding - Our welding labs are equipped to provide each student with hands-on learning opportunities, with instructors present and available for guidance. The Production Welding program includes 10 classes covering gas metal arc, flux core, shielded metal arc and oxyacetylene welding as well as plant safety, blueprint reading, metallurgy and math for manufacturing.
Computers - A number of short-term computer programs are available including networking and web design. These programs are just four to eight courses in length.
Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Machinist - CNC machinists use computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines to cut and shape precision products, such as automobile and machine parts. In this 200 hour program, you will learn how to operate CNC machines such as lathes, milling machines and wire electrical discharge machines (EDM).
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - EMT prepares students for successful completion of the Iowa/National Emergency Medical Technician Basic & Paramedic certifying examinations. These certifications give EMT graduates the necessary skills for employment in the pre-hospital patient care setting. The Emergency Medical Technician Basic Program is approximately 16 weeks and the Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic Program is approximately 12 months.
Highway Construction - The highway construction course is a grant-funded program that includes basic construction skills (safety, basic math, an introduction to hand tools, power tools, blueprint reading), flagger certification, job shadowing and an opportunity to obtain a class A driver's license. No cost - must be woman or minority and an Iowa resident.
Manufacturing Assembler - In the past an assembly job was considered to be a highly physical, low skilled occupation. Today, manufacturing assemblers in the United States are highly skilled integrators of complex components. Our 96-hour manufacturing assembly program teaches high level assembly skills and understanding of fasteners and torque, precision measurement, the proper use of assembly tools and equipment and the ability to work at an incentive pace. These are just a few of the many short-term options available to you. In addition, many of our full two-year degree programs have shorter certificate and diploma options.
