Everyone likes to have choices and that's just what we offer in the area of Drafting and Computer Aided Design (CAD).
Students have the choice of two solid CAD programs at Clinton and Scott Community Colleges, each with its own areas of specialization. Both programs provide students with the technical background necessary to get a job in this rewarding field.
Career track options in the areas of mechanical, architectural, structural and industrial drafting, along with many others, are available for program graduates.
Clinton Community College Technical Drafting and Computer Aided Design
Clinton Community College has been training drafting professionals for more than 40 years with graduates employed throughout the country. Its Technical Design and Computer Aided Drafting program is housed in the college's Graphic Arts Technology Center, a state-of-the-art 24,000-square-foot facility that was specifically designed for graphics and printing related industries. The center is located at 1951 Manufacturing Drive in Clinton.
In 2006, the college introduced Geographic Information System (GIS) training into its curriculum. Students learn the latest GIS mapping software available, preparing them for the jobs of tomorrow.
GIS is a system of hardware and software used for storage, retrieval, mapping and analysis of geographic data. It gives you the ability to associate information with a feature on a map and to create new relationships that can determine the suitability of various sites for development, evaluate environmental impact and identify the best location for a new facility.
GIS is also available as a stand-alone certificate option for those looking for specific training in that software.
Scott Community College Mechanical Design/Pro-Engineer
Scott Community College's Mechanical Design/Pro-Engineer program is located at the Blong Technology Center (BTC). The BTC is a high-tech structure located just off Interstate 80 in Davenport. It houses all of the college's manufacturing-related programs. The BTC is located just off Interstate 80 at 8500 Hilliandale Drive, Davenport.
Mechanical Design/Pro E offers three separate degree paths - Certificate, Diploma and Associate in Applied Science. All three consist of courses that have been designed in a modular format, allowing students to work at an individual pace with a flexible schedule. Each course has been arranged in small parts which, when added together, make up the entire course. For example, "AutoDesk Inventor" is one course that consists of 10 modules. Upon completion of all 10 modules, a student receives credit for the entire course.
The program places special emphasis on the Pro-Engineer modeling software program, the hottest new modeling software around. Students receive more than 500 hours of lab time specifically designed to prepare students well for employment.
Regardless of which program you choose, you can do so with the confidence that you will get a job immediately after graduation. You also do so knowing that you are choosing the most affordable option available.
By choosing the programs at Clinton or Scott Community College you will save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars when compared to the private technical colleges.
